HEAVIEST SNOW WILL BYPASS MOST OF THE REGION THROUGH MONDAY...

Over the last 24 hours or so, models have continued the trend of the idea that the axis of the heaviest snow just misses our region. However, the idea that up to six inches of snow can occur is there with the storm (from after dark tonight through mid-afternoon Monday), especially for the southern coastal sections of the Tri State area. Over southern New Jersey, amounts may peak to 10 inches, especially on the coast.

The idea yesterday in the video that the snowfall would come further north in subsequent model runs will, for the most part, turn out to be wrong.

Given the forecasts from a few days ago to what they are now, this storm for the NYC area will be remembered as an underachiever.

The current surface map shows that the front is pushing through the region with arctic air. If is the strength of this cold dome of high pressure which will ultimately suppress the heaviest snow to our south.

Near record cold is likely Monday night with fresh snow cover in place.

Our next chance at a storm will come late week. Cold will remain the big story through mid month.
