As we get further into the summer months, the tendency is for rainfall to not persist for an entire day. Rather, we seem to get periods of rain or just showers. This looks to be in the offing for late Saturday night through Monday morning and possibly a bit beyond. The long dry spell since late-April that has sent us into a "moderate drought" may be dented somewhat, as a slow-moving cold front hovers over the region for late in the weekend and provides the focus for showers and storms.

Rainfall should be largely absent for NYC and points south and east for the balance of the day Saturday. However, chances for storms and heavy showers will become more likely for late in the evening and though the overnight Saturday night/early Sunday.
Thunderstorm chances will be higher for Saturday night and lessen for Sunday; however, heavy downpours will be likely due to the proximity of the front and a very moist environment on Sunday and Sunday night.
